Special People Assemby

For the last three weeks, the each of the Year 2 classes have done an assemby to the other children in Key Stage 1 about their PSHE work on the special people in their lives. This week was Hawthorn's assemby. They drew a picture of their friend and read out something that their friend is good at.

Beegu's Rocket Crash Landing

In English, we will be reading the book Beegu. This week, the children investigated her rocket after it crashed on the school's playground. We thought about who might be in there, where they are from, why they might have crashed and how they might be feeling after arriving here on Earth.

In English we have been reading the book Halibut Jackson, and in our lesson this week we pretended to be different characters at the Queen's Garden Party and did a freeze frame to show what those characters would think and say about Halibut's new suit. Some of us were surprised and shocked, whilst others admired how beautiful the suit was.

Sports Day Practice

Today we enjoyed the sunny weather outside and practiced some of the events that we will be taking part in for Sports Day next week. We did sprinting, hurdles and standing jumps.

Reading Merit Shop

The Reading Merit Shop came to Year 2 today. Children were able to buy items using the merits they have earned for reading at home every night. There were skipping ropes, pencils, Play-doh and lots of other exciting treats. Keep up the hard work reading and earning merits until July!

Autism Awareness Week

We celebrated Autism Awareness Week on Thursday 1st April. We dressed in bright colours to represent the rainbow colours of the autistic spectrum. We discussed in our classes what autism is and how we can support people in school with autism. We also created rainbow ribbons and a mindful rainbow.

Red Nose Day

We celebrated Red Nose Day on Friday 19th March.  This year we dressed up as our favourite superheroes, some of us even dressed up as everyday superheroes such as nurses, vets, teachers and other key workers.

Science Week

From 5th - 14th March our school celebrated Science Week. We did a practical experiment where we made a rocket. We filled a plastic bottle with different amounts of water then pumped air into it and watched how far it flew. We also found out about scientists and the things they created including Steve Jobs who made the first iPhone.

World Book Day

On Thursday 4th March we celebrated World Book Day. Year 2 enjoyed a screen free day and were encouraged to dress up as a character from their favourite book. During the day we visited the school library and read some books, wrote a book review, made a bookmark and even had a World Book Day themed quiz.

Art

In our Art lessons this term, we have been learning to mix different colours. First of all, we learnt how to mix the colour brown and used our new skill to paint the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria - the ships use by Chrisopher Columbus. More recently, we mixed water colours to paint pictures of the solar system. The children really enjoyed their projects and being creative with each other.
