WWI Centenary

The whole school has taken part in a week of WWI activites linked to the centenary of the war. We have been learning about a range of different subjects about the war, including animals in war, school life in WWI, technological advances of WWI and what life was like during the 1914-1918. Some classes have visited the Cenotaph in Heywood whilst others visited Touchstones in Rochdale and the Imperial War Museum in Manchester. We also had a very exciting visit from the Animake team in Year 5. On Tuesday 11th November we took place in a whole school act of remembrance on the playground where we heard WWI poetry, local stories, took place in a silence and a flag ceremony and then enjoyed a live brass quarted playing songs from WWI. We also took part in a whole school work showcase event in the main hall where we invited our parents to share in our fabulous work and also invited them to buy cakes from our cake stall. The whole week was enjoyed by all of the children who showed what an incredibly well-behaved and respectful school we are.
