Forest School
The children spent some time exploring rocks. They cleaned them all by scrubbing them with some old paintbrushes and then we used them to create shapes and patterns.
Using leaves, twigs, straw and tiny pinecones, the children created nature faces.
We tried an alternative way of creating a piece of art. We painted over the leaf so that when it was lifted, you could see a blank space in the perfect shape of the leaf that had a mixed colour border.
We introduced the children to a variety of fruits for them to taste. We had very mixed feelings about the samples and it was interesting to see how the children approached the more unfamiliar fruits.
The interactive part of one of our Bucket Time sessions was buried treasure. The children had to dig through the straw to find the gold coins. The bonus was that inside the golden wrapper the children found some yummy chocolate.
Using some of the leaves we had collected and explored previously, we made some leaf face pictures.
We used apples to create prints to resemble pumpkins to celebrate Halloween.
Using some small sticks that were gathered from outside, the children made The Stickman. They had fun choosing which twig most resembled the popular character.
Our children were excited to make their own hedgehogs out of clay. They had to mould it to get the desired shape. Then they added matchsticks to resemble the spikes.
Our class text was all about leaves so the children were encouraged to colour their own leaves. They used a mix of shades to create a different effect.
We went on a leaf hunt so that we could explore them and see how they are different. We managed to find quite a few different shapes.
The children recycled some old toilet roll tubes an made cute little owls out of them.
Everyone had fun when they got to have a go at pumpkin carving. Some of our children got really stuck in with removing all the insides but some not so much and said that it was horrible.
The children collected some soft materials from outside to make a nest for our stuffed owls. This was linked to our text Owl Babies.
We collected lots of natural materials, some from our school grounds. We used these materials to make our own scarecrows by stuffing some old baby gros.
The children in Orchard have been looking at the text Leaf Man. We went into the Forest School area and collected leaves. The children then watched as Mrs Parkhill made a fox out of a leaf and then with help created their own.
