Rochdale Mayors Visit

At Woodland Community Primary School, we strongly believe in providing our children with diverse opportunities that go beyond traditional classroom learning. We strive to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in an ever-evolving world and we have a commitment to promoting STEM education and fostering leadership skills in our children.

To further this curriculum intent, we announced the introduction of the UK Military School program to start in school. Over the course of this academic year, all classes will have the opportunity to work in partnership with the UK Military School team on various projects in school.

The UK Military School aims to instil teamwork, leadership and discipline qualities and skills in our children through a structured program led by experienced military professionals. This program will complement and enhance our existing Woodland curriculum, allowing our children to develop essential life skills that will serve them well in their future endeavours.

The UK Military School has an outstanding reputation for nurturing young individuals and equipping them with invaluable life skills. With their guidance and mentorship, the children at Woodland have access to a tailored program aimed at harnessing their existing strengths while fostering new ones. This unique experience will undoubtedly contribute to the children’s personal development and offer them a broader perspective on leadership and teamwork. The children worked on building Go Karts, building catapults, completing obstacle courses, STEM introduction, Health and Well Being and many more tasks. Each session also involved command training, where the children learnt specific commands which they showcased at their passing out parade. The children showed great enjoyment within these sessions and we look forward to seeing the impact this will have across the school.

Medals and certificates were awarded to each of the children for successfully completing the course and they were therefore able to ‘pass out’. As this was such an achievement for the children, we asked the Mayor of Rochdale; Mike Holly, to attend. We also presented the ‘Recruit of the Term’ to one of our Year 5 children - Charlie. This enabled us to showcase the exemplary dedication and commitment of our children and what better way to do this, than to have a momentous occasion to celebrate with the Mayor of Rochdale attending! In the words of our children - ‘A real life Mayor is actually coming to our school!’.
