Reception

2024 - 2025

Through the project 'Understanding the World', children have looked at photographs  of Heywood in the past and Heywood now. The children could clearly talk about the similarities and differences between the photos. They then sorted photographs from the past and present. The children have been exploring machines from the past and comparing them to the machines that they use today. They talked about how they worked, what they looked like and talked about the changes that had happened over time. This is part of their 'Marvellous Machines' project.

Long Ago

In this topic, children talk about past and present events in their own lives and discuss who is important to them. This links to the aspect / concept Everyday Life.

In this lesson, we looked at how families can be the same and different to others. We thought about all the people we consider to be our family and drew some representations of these. We discussed those who live in our home and those that live somewhere else but still are important to us. We decided that the people we love and care for are part of our family including animals - our pets.

Long Ago / Ready Steady Grow

In this project, the children put familiar events in chronological order, using pictures and discussion. This links to the history concept / aspect of Chronology.
