Year 1

Autumn term

Year 1 have been learning to play the Glockenspiel, which is a tuned instrument belonging to the Percussion family. The children have been learning when to play and when to stop, and have had a go at performing in groups and as a class. The children have also been enjoying lots of singing in lessons too!

Year 1 have continued to use the Glockenspiels and have now learnt how to recognise different symbols that tell us to play and stop when they are written down in music. Year 1 have also been learning about the four different families of instruments in music and have listened to lots of examples of how these four families are used. They have listened to music such as Rossini’s ‘William Tell Overture’ and Rimsky-Korsakov’s ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’.
