Year 3

Autumn term

Children in year 3 have been learning to play the Djembe. The Djembe is a type of drum from Western Africa, belonging to the percussion family. The children have been playing rhythmic patterns such as ostinatos and call & response, and have even had a go at composing their own short rhythmic patterns to perform in groups.

The children have also enjoyed singing lots of songs, including splitting into two parts and performing with the Djembes.

Spring

Year 3 have continued to look at music from around the world and have now been learning about music from Brazil such as Samba. Samba uses a variety of percussion instruments both tuned and un-tuned to play short, repeated rhythms in large groups. The children have had a go at performing Samba music in groups, and composed their own Samba rhythms on each of the different Samba instruments to perform to the class.

The children have also continued to sing lots of songs in music lessons.
