Autumn 1

Fresh Food, Good Food

This week we have been learning about food preservation and food decay. We looked at a range of packaging to learn how this helps to keep foods fresher for longer. We then created our own healthy snacks and tried hummus with a range of vegetable sticks along with making and tasting fruit kebabs. We tried lots of fruits including melon, pineapple and blueberries! For the second part of the project, the children had the opportunity to design, make and evaluate their own fruit kebabs and the packaging that would be suitable. We needed to include a label which included ingredients, where it was to be stored and eaten by date.

Roman Numerals

This week, Year 4 have been learning all about Roman Numerals.  We have been singing a Roman numeral song to help us remember the different numerals.  Follow the link below to sing the song at home.

Contrast and Complement

Within our Art projct we have been exploring different colours and the colour wheel. We used watercolours to mix our own colours to find the different shades needed to match each colour. We also developed our understanding of tertiary colours, warm and cool colours, complementary colours and analogous colours, and how artists use colour in their artwork.

Invasion - after the Roman withdrawal

In today's lesson we looked at life after the Roman withdrawal. We explored a timeline and considered the periods of invasion and settlement in England by different groups in the early Middle Ages. We then used the timeline to be able to answer questions and explored what happened in the 600 years after the Roman withdrawal.
