This week, Yew class have carried out the unit of Art work called ‘Contrast and Complement’. As part of this unit, we have learnt about primary, secondary, complementary and analogous colours and we have explored these using watercolours in our sketchbooks. We then looked at artwork from a range of different artists and commented on the colours they have used to create each piece. For our final piece, we chose a stencil to create a picture or pattern and then mixed watercolours to create warm or cold colours to complete our artwork.

This term we have been learning about Animal Nutrition and the Skeletal System in Science. This week we were able to carry out our practical activity to find out which foods were the fattest and which foods were the least fattest. We enjoyed breaking up the food, making predictions and recording our results.

Friday was Times Tables Rock Stars Day! We had the opportunity to come to school dressed as a rock star and we spent the afternoon taking part in lots of fun times table activities. We all had a turn on TTRS to compete in our whole school battle and we watched the winners of each year group compete live over Zoom to be crowned the Woodland Times Table Champion!

This week, we had a very exciting day learning all about the Stone Age. We had some very special visitors who came in to school to teach us lots of things about the Stone Age. We had the chance to take part in lots of practical activities such as weaving, making butter, building shelters, making bracelets and we even got to try on some 'Stone Age' clothes.

This week we were very excited to start our new class book called Ug! This week our challenge was to write our own character descriptions about Ug and Dug. To support us, we generated adjectives in partners to describe Ug's and Dug's appearance and personality. We referred to these adjectives later in the week to help us write our character descriptions.

We have all settled in to Year 3 brilliantly and had lots of fun this week! As part of our PSHE learning, we have been sharing personal achievements that we are proud of and setting goals that we would like to achieve in Year 3. This was our first PSHE lesson with Jigsaw Jino, who we look forward to sharing our learning with throughout the year!
