Year 2 Kings & Queens Day

This term, Year 2 have been learning all about Magnificent Monarchs. Catherine Parr came to visit our school. She taught us all about types of castles, all about the wives of Henry VIII and she taught us how to joust! She also showed us a Tudor dance that we could perform to others. As well as this, we created our own castle rooms and shields. We also got to look at different artefacts including armour worn by knights, weapons and a sword! We even got knighted with the sword. It was such a fun day and we learned a lot!

Pride Month

To celebrate Pride Month, we have taken part in lots of different activities including creating pride bunting for our classrooms, wearing colours which are represented in the pride flag, and creating a whole school pride flag. We also had class discussions and assemblies to talk about Pride Month, why we celebrate it and why we should be proud!

King Charles III's Coronation

On Friday 5th of May we celebrated the upcoming coronation of King Charles III. We all came to school dresses in red, white and blue or as princes and princesses. We had a picnic lunch in our classrooms with our friends and listened to music. During the afternoon, we completed lots of fun coronation themed art and craft activities.

Lytham St. Anne’s Memorable Experience

This term, Year 2 have been learning all about Coastlines in English, Geography and DT lessons. On our memorable experience, we were able to point out various human and physical features of the coastline including a pier, sea wall, beach huts, RNLI and of course, the beach! Even though it was a bit wet and windy, we still had lots of fun!

Year 2 Attendance Prizes

At the end of Spring 1, Hawthorn, Aspen and Birch all got to spin the attendance wheel because they had beat the school attendance target. Hawthorn and Aspen won a pyjama party and Birch won a tech afternoon. The children had so much fun taking part in their prizes!

On the 2nd of March 2023 we celebrated World Book Day, where the children (and staff!) came dressed up as fairy tale characters and wrote their own 'Twisted Fairy Tales'. The children produced fantastic pieces of writing and thoroughly enjoyed reading and listening to different fairy tales. At the end of the day the whole school came together in a virtual assembly and also created a whole school ‘Twisted Fairy Tale’ too! We all had a great day!

Children's Mental Health Week

This week was children’s mental health week, this year’s theme is let’s connect and is designed to encourage children to consider the different ways that we can make meaningful connections with others. In Monday’s and Wednesday’s assemblies, the children discussed how we can connect with others and named some meaningful connections they had made. On Friday, the children were asked to dress to express and took part in some mindfulness and yoga.

Autumn

During the Autumn term, the children took part in Mindful Movements sessions every Friday. The children were given the opportunity to share how they were feeling at the start and end of every session. During the session the children were taught new ways of breathing and some yoga poses. There were also some fun games too!

Red Tiger Karate Club

Red Tiger Karate Club came to visit us on the 29/09/2022. Paul and Tony told the children all about Karate. The children were invited to join the Red Tiger Karate Club which takes place on a Wednesday evening here at Woodland Community Primary School.
