Crossing The Lines

 

Year 5 took part in a workshop called 'Crossing The Lines' delivered by company Breaking Barriers from Rochdale Borough Council. In the workshop, the children watched a video and a monologue before getting into groups to discuss themes about healthy relationships, healthy choices, peer pressure, grooming and who we can talk to if we have any worries or concerns. The workshop was very informative and the children learnt a lot. 

 

Down Syndrome Awareness Day

 

On Down Syndrome Awareness Day, the children learnt about what Down syndrome is, addressed any misconceptions about Down syndrome and took part in lots of activities. On the day, the children came in odd socks or brightly coloured socks. The socks represent what the extra chromosome of someone with Down syndrome looks like! 

Nature’s Art Workshop
 

Year 5 have been lucky enough to have a real artist - Michelle Taube - deliver a workshop linked to their project 'Nature's Art'. In the workshop, the children practiced their sketching skills, used a range of paints to practice tints, tones and shades before eventually creating nature inspired piece of artwork. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and it has inspired many children to think about a career in art. 

World Book Day

 

For World Book Day, children came to school dressed up in a book character or in bright colours. Throughout the day, the children took part in a range of activities including:

  • reading 'The Invisible' by Tom Percival
  • creating story boards linked to 'The Invisible'
  • reading their favourite book
  • discussing books they have read in the past and books they want to read in the future
  • joining a BBC Live Lesson
  • reading their books to Year 2 children

 

They thoroughly enjoyed the day and are showing such a love for reading!

Number Day! for NSPCC

 

The children took part in Number Day. Throughout the day, the children did a range of activities linked to Maths and number including: treasure hunt and creating maths games. The children created a range of maths games including card games and board games. The games linked to a range of Mathematics topics including: multiplication, addition, division, subtraction, fractions and decimals. The children had lots of fun creating games, playing the games and sharing their games with other classes and teachers! 

Recycling Workshop

 

This week, Year 5 took place in a Recycling Workshop, where they learnt all about the importance of the 4 R's: reduce, recycle, reuse and recover. They learnt about which items can be reused and recycled, and which bins different items should and shouldn't go in. The children had lots of fun and received a certifcate and a bookmark for taking part! 

Christmas Crafts

 

The children enjoyed Christmas Crafts with their parents and careers and had so much fun! We made snowmen, baubles and Santa Clauses! It definitely got us into the Christmas spirit! 

Children in Need

 

To support the charity 'Children in Need', Year 5 came dressed in yellow, spots or PJs. The children made a donation as well. We had an assembly about what Children In Need is and how our money can support these children. We did activities in the afternoon including colouring, crack the code and escape the classroom!

Anti-bullying Week

 

To support anti-bullying week, the children got to wear odd socks! We discussed what bullying was, how we can prevent it and how we can support children who are being bullied. The children did a variety of activities including creating their own sock puppets!

Shang Dynasty Day

 

Year 5 took part in Shang Dynasty Day where they participated in lots of different activities linked to their project 'Dynamic Dynasties'. They enjoyed a history/drama workshop which was delivered by ‘One Day’ company. The children also learnt to write their name in Chinese,  created China-inspired artwork and researched geographical facts about China. The children had learned lots of information and had lots of fun!
