Marvellous Machines

In this project, the children have explored different machines, their uses and what they look like. These have ranged from a hoover, to an ipad to an ambulance. In their lessons and through their provision activities, they have created artwork with machines as their focus. Children have studied the work by Jackson Pollock and used vehicles to recreate his artwork, they have printed trains using sponges and printed shapes using machine parts.

Puppets and Pop Ups

In this project, the children have learned about different types of puppets. They have linked their Design and Technology skills to their Art and Design skills, by designing and creating lots of different puppets.

Build It Up

In this project the children have talked about their houses and the area around our school. They have drawn pictures of their houses and buildings around school and used junk modelling and collage to create these too.

Finally, we studied transient art and looked at images of 'unusual buildings' before using loose parts to create our own 'unusual buildings'.

Let's Explore

In this project, the children have explored their imaginations and created fantasy worlds. They have created observational drawings based on photographs of different places around the world.

Alongside our focus text 'Owl Babies' the children used the dough to make owls and used chalks and paints to create owls.

Painting Portraits

As part of the project 'Let's Explore', children in Reception have been painting self portraits. They used mirrors to look at the features of their faces and talked about the colour of their skin, eyes and hair.

On the Beach

In our project 'On the Beach' we have been using seaside objects to create transient art. The children talked about what they wanted to create and the objects they wanted to use.

Creep, Crawl and Wiggle

In the project 'Creep, Crawl and Wiggle, the children have been studying the artist Henri Matisse. They looked at the piece 'The Snail' and created their own versions using collage materials. The children created swirls in the style of a snail on large paper.

Children talked about the different patterns created in spider webs before threading string across a paper plate to create a spider web.

Animal Safari

We began our animal safari project by talking about our own pets. The children then used paper plates to paint and add materials to create a pet.

In provision, children have used the playdough to create trees after discussing different animal habitats. Children have studied the patterns on different animals and used collage materials to create their own animals.

We have developed our cutting skills in the creative area, where children have used the mark making materials to colour an animal and cut it out.

Finally, we have developed our threading skills when creating bird feeders in our project lessons using pipe cleaners and cereal.

Signs of Spring

In provision, we have been creating transient art using a range of flowers that we might find in spring.
