Spring 1

Poetry Competition

On Friday all children across the school entered a poetry competition. The theme of the competition was an eco poem. The children could write about nature, wildlife, insects, the earth or recycling. The children all tried so hard and produced some lovely poems! Well done Year 1!

Mathematics

In our Mathematics lessons this week, we have been continuing our work on place value to 20. We have spent time looking at number lines and thinking about the position of numbers on the number line, compared numbers and ordered numbers.

In readiness for Chinese New Year you could play this number ordering game at home too!

Making a vehicle

In our Design and Technology lessons we have been investigating how wheels can make vehicles move. We have learned the correct names and terminology of 'wheels', 'axle' and 'chassis' which we used when we made our own with Mobilo.

The children looked at a variety of vehicles and moving objects and used these pictures to create their own.

Royal Tea Party!

On Tuesday we launched our new project 'Bright Lights, Big City.' The children were invited to a royal tea party where they became kings and queens for the afternoon. The children began the afternoon by making and decorating their own crowns. They listened to classical music too! - just as the royal family would do!

The children have been learning about the different landmarks in our English lessons and had chance to create these during the afternoon too.

Finally some children created their own representations of King Charles III using pencil crayons and felt tips before making him a royal crown. The outcomes were amazing!! Well done year 1 we have had a fantastic first week back!!

A Walk in London

Since returning to school we have enjoyed reading our new text 'A walk in London' by Salvatore Rubbino. We have read about the little girl in the story who explores London with her mum. She is very excited as she sees the different London landmarks. We have used fantastic adjectives to describe the girl and the setting which we will be using in the coming weeks to write our narrative.

If you would like to listen to the story at home use the link below:
