Spring 1

WC 08.01.2024

This week the Year 2 children took part in a ‘conscience alley’ in their English lessons to decide whether a new pier should be built. The children generated ideas for and against and read these reasons out to try and convince the Mayor of Struay to take their side.

This week Aspen Class explored shape and texture in Art. The children practiced with card first before applying the skills and using clay to make roses.

This week in Geography, we continued our Coastline topic by learning about erosion and the effects it can have. The children in Hawthorn and Aspen helped to create a demonstration to show how the use of a sea wall can help protect the land and buildings along the coast.

This week in PSHE, the children in Aspen class continued to learn about the importance of dreams and goals. We looked at how to set achievable goals and how we can work together as a team to achieve them. The children were set a task at random in teams and had a short amount of time to learn it. These included the macarena, counting to 10 in mandarin and counting in twos in French.

This week Hawthorn class started their innovate task in their ‘Flower Head’ Art project. The children revisited the work of the artist Yayoi Kusama. The children used what they knew about the visual elements of flowers and the art of Yayoi Kusama to create a flower sculpture from clay.
