Week Commencing 27th March 2023
In English this week, we have finished looking at our text, The Enormous Turnip. We have read part of the story and used this information to rewrite a narrative. In maths, we have consolidated our knowledge of numbers within 10 through exploring questions and alternative combinations of numbers. Linking with our mini project Signs of Spring, we looked at and compared different religious celebrations including the Hindu colour festival. It has also been a very fun week looking at what it means to be Autistic and celebrating our own and others differences.
As this is our final week before Easter we also had a whole school Easter Bonnet Competition and it was amazing to see them all.
Week Commencing 20th March 2023
In English this week, we have started looking at our second text, The Enormous Turnip. We have read part of the story and used this information to start box up a newspaper report. In phonics we have looked at words ending with an s. In maths, we have focused on 3D shapes and their properties as well as creating repeat patterns. Linking with our mini project Signs of Spring, we thought about what baby farm animals are called linking with our visit last week to Smithills Farm. We have also had a little nature walk around our school looking for signs of spring - new life - like buds, flowers blossoming, eggs and the sounds of new life.
Week Commencing 13th March 2023
In English this week, we have continued looking at our text Errol's Garden. We have used the story to help imagine what our own dream garden would look like. In phonics we have continued to read and write longer words and are attempting to use our knowledge of GPCs to write short sentences independently. In maths, we have continued to broaden our knowledge of numbers to 10, looking at making ten with two groups. This is helping us to develop our number bonds within ten through subertising. Linking with our project Ready Steady Grow we visited a local farm and found this to be an amazing experience (enrichment opportunity). Whilst there, we got to ride on a donkey, took a tractor ride, saw how cows are milked and fed and petted some of the animals. Not only did we have a trip this week we also got to dress up as our favorite Mr Men / Little Miss to help raise money for children in need and celebrate peoples differences that make them special.

In English this week, we have been looking at our brand new text Errol's Garden and we also celebrated World Book Day. We have enjoyed reading this new narrative and getting to know the story. In phonics we have continued to build on our sight recognition of phase 3 tricky words and are writing sentences containing all the taught grapheme phoneme correspondence. This is helping us to read phrases containing some tricky words. In maths, we have continued to broaden our knowledge of numbers to 10, looking at subtilising and counting forwards and backwards by one (more and less). Our projects this term are Ready Steady Grow and Signs of Spring so we have been looking at a wide range of fruits and vegetables. We are also planning a visit to a local farm within the next few weeks.
